Congress May Overturn Online Gambling Ban
U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, chairman of the House of Representatives Financial Services Committee, said on Tuesday he would introduce a bill next week to overturn a three-year-old U.S. ban on Internet gambling.

The legislation, likely to be opposed by anti-gambling Republicans, would overturn a law imposed during the Bush administration that has hurt U.S. trade ties with the European Union. Frank said the bill was being drafted this week.

"We'll be introducing it next week and I plan to move on it," said Frank, a Democrat, speaking at the Reuters Global Financial Regulation Summit in Washington.

That means ignoring the caller. It means playing ahead of the numbers flashing on the board and instead, stealing glances at one of the TVs posted high around the room.

Alabama again: Council to discuss Birmingham bingo

Birmingham's City Council is considering an ordinance creating rules for electronic and paper bingo.

Council member Joel Montgomery's proposal would update the current city ordinance on bingo, which does not mention the electronic version of the game.

Montgomery says his ordinance would bring millions of dollars into city coffers and support the financially strapped school system.

But some council members say the proposed rules overstep the city's authority. At least one bingo operator says the proposal unfairly favors large groups with deep pockets.

Council President Carole Smitherman says the council would discuss the ordinance Tuesday in more detail before voting.

Rift between AG, Governor widens over bingo

There's a rift between Governor Bob Riley and the man he once appointed Attorney General, and it was caused by bingo, electronic bingo. Governor Riley and AG Troy King have differing opinions on what is legal and what's not and now the difference of opinion has deepened.

The attorney general says the governor and his illegal gambling task force are intruding in AG territory and King is taking the issue to court.

There is no disagreement that the reason for the early morning raid at White Hall last month was so the governor's Task Force on Illegal Gambling could use it as a test case. The governor and the attorney general both agree on that. That lawsuit has yet to be filed.

"From the age of five I have had passion for sketching the form of things, from about the age of fifty I showed a number of drawings, yet of all I drew prior to my seventies there is truly nothing of any great note. When I was seventy-two I finally made out something of the shape of grasses and trees, the structure of birds and other animals, insects, fishes. Therefore when I become eighty I shall have made more progress; in my nineties I shall have penetrated even further the hidden meaning of things; at the age of a hundred I shall have reached the divine mystery, and at one hundred and ten even dots and lines will surely possess a life of their own."

On this day in 1965, American International Pictures released BEACH BLANKET BINGO, the fourth in the series of hugely popular FRANKIE & ANNETTE movies. Directed by WILLIAM ASHER, the film featured the usual BEACH BLANKET regulars: DEBORAH WALLEY, HARVEY LEMBECK, JOHN ASHLEY, DONNA LOREN, MARTA KRISTEN and LINDA EVANS. DON RICKLES and PAUL LYNDE filled out the bill. Pretty hokey stuff even back in the day.

"check his card"! Bingo play gets lively at retirement center New Rotary-donated board helps to add 'magic' to residents' days Residents at Willamette Lutheran Retirement Community are a lively and competitive bunch. "Bingo!" Alden Moberg, 76, a resident who lives at the retirement community, shouted during a recent bingo game. The collective response from other players was "oh, no." When Moberg won the second game minutes later, players again reacted, saying "not again," "check his card" and "he already won a game." Coming together on a weekly basis to play bingo offers seniors at the residence camaraderie, mental stimulation, and an element of surprise and competition, said Raeann McDonald, the facility's executive director. "It's magic in their day, thanks to the (East) Salem Rotary Club," she said.

NEVER LIE TO YOUR MOTHER

HAVING MOM OVER FOR DINNER
You don't even have to be a mother to enjoy this one...

Brian invited his mother over for dinner. During the course of the meal, Brian's mother couldn't help but notice how beautiful Brian's roommate, Jennifer, was. Brian's Mom had long been suspicious of the platonic relationship between Brian and Jennifer, and this had only made her more curious.

Over the course of the evening, while watching the two interact, she started to wonder if there was more between Brian and Jennifer than met the eye.

Reading his mom's thoughts, Brian volunteered, 'I know what you must be thinking, but I assure you Jennifer and I are just roommates.'

About a week later, Jennifer came to Brian saying, 'Ever since your mother came to dinner, I've been unable to find the beautiful silver gravy ladle. You don't suppose she took it, do you?'

Brian said, 'Well, I doubt it, but I'll send her an e-mail just to be sure. So he sat down and wrote:

Dear Mom,

I'm not saying that you 'did' take the gravy ladle from the house, I'm not saying that you 'did not' take the gravy ladle. But the fact remains that one has been missing ever since you were here for dinner.

Love, Brian

Several days later, Brian received an email back from his mother that

read:

Dear Son,

I'm not saying that you 'do' sleep with Jennifer, I'm not saying that you 'do not' sleep with Jennifer. But the fact remains that if Jennifer is sleeping in her own bed, she would have found the gravy ladle by now.

Love, Mom

Meditation boosts immunity

Office Gossip

Meditation boosts immunity Scientists at the University of Wisconsin tested the immunity of subjects who had received flu shots, half of whom had learned to meditate six days a week. After eight weeks, people who meditate had higher levels of flu-fighting antibodies. They were better able to deal with stress, and had increased activity in the brain that was linked to good moods. The feel-good effects lasted for up to four months after they stopped meditating. The doctors say meditating produces biological changes in the brain and body. It's free, safe, and helpful.

101 Computer Tips on ThatBingo.com

ThatBingo.com

Clean Out the Inside of Your PC

Over time, dust and dirt will eventually build up inside your computer's case. This excess dust can negatively effect the computer's performance. Dust and grime can build up on fans, causing your inner PC parts to run hotter and less efficiently. Even if you think your PC is in a very clean environment, opening the box at least once a year and removing the dust can improve system performance. A can of compressed air will do the trick and can be bought at any store that sells electronics, including a Wal-Mart, Target or Best Buy. Just turn off your PC, open the case and spray out those dust bunnies. Be sure not to touch any of the electronic parts!

Gambling Laws in Alabama going to legislation

Bingo bill on way to Senate
Gov. Bob Riley wants to take White Hall or a similar "arcade" case to the Alabama Supreme Court in hopes of gaining a ruling that the machines are illegal in the state.

Riley has formed a task force on illegal gambling, which recently raided a facility in White Hall and confiscated more than 100 machines and more than $560,000, which a judge recently ruled had to be returned. Riley has appealed the order, stating the judge has a conflict of interest because of previous work for an Indian casino. The administration has also noted that the ruling was just a preliminary injunction.

Clarity needed for bingo law
Years ago, then Chilton County, these bingo machines were removed from “arcades” in and around the county.

Arrests were made, machines were seized and cases were built against those who operated what were ruled illegal machines.

Political groups, such as the “Sweet Home Alabama Coalition” have jumped into the fray, calling for legislation to not only regulate bingo machines but tax them, bringing in revenue for the state.

JOKE OF THE MONTH

Several men are in the locker room of a golf club.
A cell phone on a bench rings and a man engages the hands free speaker-function and begins to talk.
Everyone else in the room stops to listen.
MAN: "Hello."
WOMAN: "Honey, it's me. Are you at the club?"
MAN: "Yes."
WOMAN: "I am at the mall now and found this beautiful leather coat. It's only $1,000. Is it OK if I buy it?"
MAN: "Sure, go ahead if you like it that much."
WOMAN: "I also stopped by the Mercedes dealership and saw the new 2005 models. I saw one I really liked."
MAN: "How much?"
WOMAN: "$90,000."
MAN: "OK, but for that price, I want it with all the options."
WOMAN: "Great! Oh, and one more thing .....the house I wanted last year is back on the market. They're asking $950,000."
MAN: "Well, then go ahead and give them an offer of $900,000. They will probably take it. If not, we can go the extra 50 thousand. It is really a pretty good price."
WOMAN: "OK. I'll see you later!I love you so much!!"
MAN: "Bye! I love you, too."
The man hangs up. The other men in the locker room are staring at him in astonishment, mouths agape.....
Then he smiles and asks: "Anyone know who this phone belongs to?"

The Bishop calls bingo

THE Bishop of Manchester may have objected to gambling in casinos . . . but he had no problems being a bingo caller during a parish visit. He was able to see how bingo halls play a role in the community.
He said: "I've no objection to small-scale gambling, which can be helpful in joining people together.
"For a lot of people, bingo is the only time in the day they get to talk to anybody. It's only when people are encouraged to spend too much money in big casinos that there is a problem and that's not going to happen here."
