Bingo in the Scrabble World!

It was a mad scramble for Scrabble title
'Pinecone' clinches it

Retired Web developer Ken Clark saw that "axe" was a mistake shortly after laying down the tiles. The veteran competitor in this weekend's "Scrabble in Seattle" tournament realized that playing "ixia" -- a South African iris -- would have won more points and used more of the dreaded vowels cluttering up his rack.

You can't make those mistakes playing against Dave Wiegand, a 30-year-old Portland mortgage underwriter and nationally ranked player who won the tournament yesterday after beating 17 out of 20 opponents. "He came back with 'pinecone' for 91 points," said Clark, 55, with the smile of a man who appreciates a cleverly played word, even if it isn't his... read more

Casino Freebies

Gambling Comps 101 or The Ask Game

I don't know who did it or when it happened, but someone shortened the word complimentary to comp and made it an industry standard. In casino language, comps are cash or gifts (freebies) that the casinos give to their customers as a reward for gambling with them. It promotes good will and also entices players to be loyalty to the establishment. In order to get comps from the casinos, you must play the ask game.

Most players think that comps are only for the guest who spend big bucks at the casinos and therefore don't ask for them. This is wrong. There are many different comps given out by the casinos and it depends on how much money you play which comp you might get. Casino properties give away everything from free candles to promotions that offer free rooms and food.
A small comp that a casinos gives away to everyone is free drinks. Most casinos will give you a beer or cocktail as long as you are playing. I have seen high rollers ( big money gamblers) ask for special drinks such as a rare Scotch Whiskey and the casino would get it to keep him there and gambling.

There is another comp that is generally easy to obtain and that is Casino Rate. The casinos like you staying and playing on property. They are willing to give you a discount on the hotel room rate and if you play enough you can probably get a full room comp.

In order to qualify for comps you need to do two things:

First of all you have to get your play rated. This means you must sign up for the casinos player's club and use your card whenever you play the machines. When you play table games you have to ask the pit boss to rate your play.

The second thing you must do when looking for a comp is to ask for it. No one will ask if you would like a free meal or a free hotel room, you will have to ask for what you want. If your play qualifies for the comp you are looking for you will get it. If not you are told you don't have enough play. You can then inquire as to how much play is required for the comp you are seeking.

Most of the casino employees will bend over backwards to keep you on property and playing. So to recap: Most casinos will give food and beverage comps freely if you ask. Some will give the hotel rooms fairly easy during off peak times and sometime during peak times if you ask. If you gamble big denominations, the sky could be the limit, if you ask.

A friendly smile and a polite inquiry can land you right in the middle of some very nice freebies. Aways play the ask game when you visit a casino.

Bingo saves a little boys life!

Little boy's best friend
Dog alerts mom to choking son

She's man's best friend, and then some.

Ever since three-year-old Cole Hein experienced the first of his still-unexplained choking fits, his family has been praying for an extra set of eyes and ears. That help arrived two days ago, when Bingo -- a Jack Russell terrier trained to recognize the symptoms of Cole's condition -- finally came to live with Hein in Winnipeg.

UNDIAGNOSED ILLNESS A canine caretaker provided by the National Service Dogs Training Centre in Ontario, Bingo has spent the last six months learning to recognize the sounds of Cole gagging. The tyke's choking fits are symptoms of an undiagnosed illness that causes him to stop breathing for long periods of time, often until he turns blue.

Cole, his mom Mandi Kostiuk-Hein, and trainer Danielle Forbes spent yesterday reacquainting Bingo with her new family. Kostiuk-Hein said the reunion couldn't have gone smoother. "It went so good I was crying," said the Winnipeg mom, who's spent the last half-year orchestrating fundraising efforts to help offset the $12,000 cost of Bingo's training.

'TAKEN TO BINGO'
"And Cole has taken to Bingo very well. Cole loves Bingo ... He's only three, but he understands. He keeps telling people, 'Bingo is going to try.'" Forbes said Bingo has been trained -- using an audio recording of Cole's retching -- to bark loudly whenever the boy is seized by an attack. "Now when Cole has an episode for real, it'll just be a matter of following the same procedure," she said.

Cole's unusual plight has attracted some high-profile attention, drawing support from Eric Dodge -- an American country singer who wrote a song about the boy -- and from Winnipeg Blue Bomber Wes Lysack, who got involved after being approached by Kostiuk-Hein in a parking lot. "Our heartfelt thanks to everyone on their generosity," Kostiuk-Hein said yesterday. "It wasn't just donating money, it was also that people donated so much of their time ... Now we don't feel so alone anymore."

Video Poker - Choose the Best Machines

There are three basic types of video poker machines:
* Jacks or Better
* Deuces Wild
* Jokers Wild

To keep things basic, we recommend you play only the Jacks or Better machines. The payouts are usually better and the draw strategy is more straightforward.

What you're really looking for is a Jacks or Better machine with a good payout schedule. The best payout schedule pays 9 to 1 for full house and 6 to 1 for a flush. In gambler's terms, this is called a "9-6" machine, for obvious reasons. Several years ago, you could find several of these in most casinos, but they are now very hard to find because of the favorable (to you, not the house!) payout schedule.

Frequently, the best payout you'll be able to find is the next best one, which pays 8 to 1 for a full house and 5 to 1 for a flush. However, this is a good payout schedule if it's also a "four-of-a-kind" bonus machine. A bonus machine pays extra odds for hitting four-a- kind for certain cards, such as 2s, 3s, or 4s, or three other cards. The payout schedule has this information, so be sure to read the payout schedule carefully before you play any machine.

Be sure to avoid machines that only pay 1 to 1 for two pairs. This should be the payout for a single pair of jacks or better. Two pair should pay 2 to 1. You money will go much faster if two pairs pays only 1 to 1.

Look for these payout schedules and you'll be playing with house edge against you of 1 or 2% - some of the best odds in the casino.

Good luck!

Cow Pie Bingo Tournament

Blossom flops at Cow Pie Bingo competition

What is this cow doing standing in a checkerboard pasture next to Gray-New Gloucester Middle School? Why, Blossom, the Hereford cow owned by Paul and Wendy Gallagher, is a pie producer for Cow Pie Bingo.

On Friday, May 20, the G-NGMS 8th-grade Frog Squad played the game in the upper field of the Middle School.

The Frog Squad invited friends and family members to purchase two-foot squares on the grid. If Blossom dropped a pie on a square, it was a winner-and whoever "owned" the square won a prize.

Blossom arrived at 3:00 P.M., looking to be in top shape for the event. She strolled contentedly around, probably wondering why all those people were watching her so closely. Perhaps it was the ever-changing weather perhaps she was just shy; perhaps she was suspicious of the hot dogs being served by Lonnie Humphrey. Whatever the reason, Blossom left no prizes that day. So a consolation drawing was held, and Mary Seger took home a cash prize.

Proceeds from the bingo game will go toward a final overnight for the 8th-graders at the Freeport YMCA in a few weeks, and to complete payment for a retreat the students had attended earlier.

Ms. Morgan and Mr. Bergner, Frog Squad leaders, said the students had fun organizing the bingo game, and would like to make it an annual event.

Nobody asked Blossom her opinion.

If you've missed the playoffs twice, you get two balls. That's Edmonton, Calgary, Carolina, Chicago, Nashville, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Washington, Minnesota and Anaheim. Everybody else gets one ball. Total: 52 balls.

Online bingo is simple.

Everyone with internet access can play bingo online. Most online bingo sites just require a quick registration and then you can sit down and play bingo.

There are 3 categories of online bingo: free bingo, gaming sites with a bingo game and pay-to-play Bingo, all of which are multiplayer.

Free bingo is just what it says. You can play online bingo for free. Mostly the free bingo site, will allow the points won to be turned in for credits to their pay-to-play bingo sponsors or other prizes, even cash!

Gaming sites with a bingo game are also usually free. At some gaming sites, a player can pay an annual fee to use their site and win small amounts of money or prizes. Many game sites will offer numerous games such as solitaire, mahjong and bingo. At these sites, just like with free bingo, you can also win prizes.

Pay-to-play bingo sites require the bingo player to make a monetary deposit. The bingo player then will purchase bingo cards using the funds in their accounts. When they win a bingo, the cash prize is deposited into their account. Bingo players can then withdraw their winnings. Pay to play bingo sites also offer the bingo player a bingo chat room where they can visit with other online bingo players and play chat games to earn bingo bonus credits.

Bingo odds

Some people believe that their chances of winning increase proportionately with the number of bingo cards they play. Although that’s true, the advantage is less than most people expect or hope. Take our example of 200 bingo cards in play. Your odds go from 1 in 200 to 1 in 40 if you’re playing five of those cards rather than a single card. But consider your odds from another angle: by paying five times as much to play, you’re only decreasing your odds of losing from 199 out of 200 to 195 out of 200. And you’re also losing your money five times as fast.

In short, it pays to check out a game and mentally calculate your odds before laying down your cash and picking up your cards. The more cards you play, the more interesting the game. But the key is to play where there are fewer cards competing for that prize.

Penguin bingo news!

Bingo has been used to promote many things. Bingo is a tried and true fundraiser. But this stunt is the strangest bingo game yet!

The National Aviary in Pittsburgh is planning to celebrate National Migratory Bird Days with various promotions, including a bizarre game of penguin bingo.

The birds will be released on a giant bingo board and allowed to waddle around. The numbers will be called whenever a bird, ahem, goes to the bathroom on a numbered square.

Aviary experts say each bird will do that every 20 minutes or so.

Online Bingo Or Land Based Bingo?

Online Bingo Or Land Based Bingo?

Online bingo are not going to replace land based bingo, but both games offer advantages to the bingo player. How does an online bingo game compare to land based bingo?

Going to bingo halls is the opportunity to meet and socialize with friends and share in the atmosphere while you play bingo. It's a chance to get out, have some fun, meet people and hopefully win a cash prize!

Most online bingo games try to recreate the ambience and camaraderie of bingo halls. The ball board is reproduced in miniature over the virtual bingo card. The mascots of an online bingo hall is the caller.

One of the most important features of online bingo sites is the chat room. Graphics and sound effects, chatroom interaction help to connect bingo buddies. Many online bingo friendships happen. Chat rooms develop regular crowds and favorite topics.

Online bingo is available anywhere to anyone with a computer connection. Lots of people don't live near a bingo hall so online bingo offers them the opportunity to play bingo. Bad weather can preempt a trip to a land based bingo game. For caretakers and/or their homebound loved ones, online bingo can offer a much needed social contact.

Socialize in an online bingo chatroom now!

Cyber Bingo Thrills!

Bingo is the Ultimate Thrill!

New research carried out in the UK has revealed that to play bingo is more exciting than going on a rollercoaster.

The UK based National Bingo Game Association (NGBA) carried out research on randomly selected groups of men and women, who were asked to first ride a rollercoaster and then play a game of bingo. All the individuals were fitted with heart monitors before riding one of Britain’s largest rollercoasters.

According to Casino Magazine, “in all instances the participants believed that their heart rates were higher whilst riding the rollercoaster. They were shocked to discover, however, that the bingo game sent heart rates soaring by a further two beats per minute. As their chances of winning a major cash prize increased, so did their heart rates.”

Sport psychologist Charlie Manning explains that “the answer lies in the power of anticipation. With a line on the bingo card only needing one or two further numbers to claim the jackpot, the body swings into a high level of physiological arousal as adrenaline floods into the system. The same thing happens when riding a rollercoaster. Although the situation may appear hazardous – which is of course what provides the thrill – actually the brain knows it’s all perfectly safe. With bingo it’s all down to the computer to give you the big win and since neither the player nor anyone else can influence the outcome the thrill of anticipation is even greater.”

Average Resting Heart Rate: 65 beats per minute.Average Roller Coaster Heart Rate: 139 beats per minute.Average Bingo Heart Rate: 141 beats per minute.

Bingo Card Selection

Bingo Card Selection: Naturally, the heart of any winning bingo game system is card selection. Granville has isolated crucial relationships between winning bingo numbers and the master board. He shows you how to use these simple and proven truths to select a greater number of winning cards. Most methods players use to select their cards are completely backwards, Granville found. Players are working against themselves without even realizing it!

The next time you play online bingo, note very carefully an amazing characteristic relating to the first ten numbers flashed on the master board. With very few exceptions, you will note that a preponderance of the numbers have different digit endings! The average bingo player, putting all the attention on the cards rather than the master board, would tend to overlook this, the most important single characteristic of the first ten numbers called in any bingo game. Since most regular games last for about ten to twelve calls or less, you will vastly improve your chances of selecting a winning card by concentrating on numbers having different digit endings.

Play Bingo for a young mind!

Good bingo news for our brains!

Playing a bingo game can keep the mind in trim - and the older you are the more agile you may be, researchers have found. Tests showed bingo players were faster and more accurate than non-bingo players in a range of tests measuring mental speed, memory and the ability to pick up information from the environment around them. Bingo players have to be able to check numbers off quickly and need rapid hand-eye co-ordination - but these skills had been thought to decline with age And unlike chess, bridge and backgammon, which need skills that are stored in the brain and remembered when needed, bingo requires speedy identification within time constraints.

Julie Winstone, from the University of Southampton's Center for Visual Cognition at the Department of Psychology has been testing bingo players' mental agility over the last year.
She studied the responses of 112 people aged 18 to 40, and older people aged between 60 and 82. Half of each group played bingo, and the others did not. She presented her findings to the Annual Conference of the Psychologists Special Interest Group in Older People in Winchester.
Winstone said it was suspected that long-term mental activity - such a bingo - could stave off the decline of cognitive abilities, such as speed and accuracy and recognition of patterns.

Exercise your brain today! Play Bingo!
