Meditating at the Office May Improve Your Performance

Bingo Info Network

NEW STUDY: Meditating at the Office May Improve Your Performance
Daily meditation may improve performance at work and reduce stress, suggests a study in Cognitive, Affective, and Behavioral Neuroscience. Subjects sat and focused on their breathing for 30 minutes a day for eight weeks. The result: Mediators responded significantly faster than a control group to commands to push certain computer buttons, an indicator of precise focus and an ability to make quick decisions. Meditation may help control your attention and push troubling thoughts aside, making room to focus on tasks at hand, says lead author Amishi P. Jha, Ph.D.

BABY AT BINGO IS LUCKY OMEN Most prospective parents might object to their child being regarded as an "omen", after the film exploits of a certain Damien. But for one bingo fan, the word proved slightly more positive recently, as she attempted to shock her daughter into labour. While the trick failed, National Bingo reveals that 44-year-old Tracey Firth instead landed in the money. Following a win at the Buckingham Bingo hall in Bradford, Tracey says of her daughter: "She was definitely my lucky omen." She adds that the £18,000 UK bingo jackpot is to be shared between herself and four others.

Bingo night

Yakima Herald Republic Online - Yakima, Washington News, Classifieds, Information, Advertising

Here, Now -- Bingo night

Delores Johnson watches her cards as she plays bingo at Super D Bingo on Feb. 17. Johnson came with her granddaughter and great-granddaughter for the evening's games.

Everyone here is hoping.

Sunday night, in the pale wash of fluorescent lights, tangled in the scent of nacho cheese, luck and fortune hold out their shiny promises. It's bingo night, where old and young alike sit quietly along the long rows of tables, watching the bingo ball flick onto the television screen, daubing slick circles of ink onto their cards.

They give many reasons for coming. For some, it's the company, the weekly ritual. Others simply say it's the money.

It's also a ritual of hope -- with daubers in canvas bags and cards lined out like a fortune teller's deck. Anyone might be the one to shout out "bingo," be the winner, claim the prize. Everyone has potential.

70-year-old killed in crash loved to play bingo

Ottawa County Sheriff's Office deputies respond to the scene of a fatal car crash on U.S. 31 near Taylor Street in Port Sheldon Township early Monday morning.

Eileen Lois Grotzinger never missed a game of bingo with her friends. It was a hobby she was committed to four mornings a week.

But on Monday morning, 70-year-old Grotzinger never arrived at bingo, and the game went on without her.

Grotzinger, of West Olive, died when her 1998 Ford Escort was struck on the driver's side by an oncoming vehicle as she attempted to cross U.S. 31.

Schools cutting bingo fund raisers, daunted by state rules

MANCHESTER, Conn. (AP) _ Organizers of some school bingo events say they are shying away from the fund raisers this year, afraid of breaking complicated state finance rules.

School officials, parents and community organizers say many were alarmed after East Catholic High School in Manchester was cited last fall for using a money wheel in a fundraising drive.

State officials decided against legal action after determining the school was unaware it was breaking state laws. Those rules require organizers to register with the state Division of Special Revenue, go through background checks and other regulations.

It's game over as smoking ban kills off city bingo hall

THE number's up for an Edinburgh bingo hall that has been forced to close after an 80 per cent drop in players since the smoking ban.
Gala Bingo, in West Granton, once boasted around 8000 customers a week – but numbers have slumped to as low as 1500 since the ban came into force.

On Saturday night, the decision was finally taken to close the club, which opened 12 and a half years ago.

Bingo-mad housing chief 'bullied' tenants out of thousands » Housing » 24dash.com

A bingo-mad housing chief, who "bullied" vulnerable tenants out of more than £63,000 to fund her gambling addiction, was warned today jail was virtually inevitable.

For three years grandmother Jeanette Harris, 50, lied to both the "socially needy" and key workers such as firemen and nurses to pocket money.

The estate manager, who turned to crime just weeks after starting work for the Crown Estate Commissioners (CEC), first told her victims they needed to pay deposits to secure the scarce accommodation.

She then insisted they had to pay their rent in cash. Harris cooked the books to cover up her crimes.

One of those she targeted, who complained about her behaviour and took her bosses to a tribunal, found the CEC siding with their employee and winning.

.Closing the generation gap with a game of bingo

Catholic Explorer :: Closing the generation gap with a game of bingo

Valentine’s Day has been called a Hallmark holiday—a day when people express their love by sending cards to those they care about.

Showing someone you care can require a lot more effort than purchasing a greeting card or a bouquet of flowers. A group of Darien Cub Scouts donated a Sunday afternoon to show residents at the Carmelite Carefree Village retirement home how much they care. The scouts showed up Feb. 3 to play games and interact with the senior residents.

Thirty members of Cub Scout Pack 36, which is sponsored by the Darien Lions Club, turned up on Super Bowl Sunday to play bingo and chitchat with the seniors. The annual event has been held for 12 years, according to Christine Klassek, program director at the Darien facility.

“It’s really a wonderful time,” Klassek explained over the phone prior to the annual function. “The children come in their uniforms and sit with the residents and engage in conversation. Sometimes they sing songs with the seniors and they usually play games like bingo.”

Playing bingo is about so much more that just winning

Bingo player network - online bingo news, free online bingo tournaments, Bingo Player Network, free online bingo tournament

Playing bingo really is about so much more that just winning, don’t you think? And for the elderly it really does seem to help them, not only socially but also in helping keeping their minds active. For many seniors, bingo is simply something fun to do with their friends, no tricks or strategy is needed for them and it is just a way of socialising with friends. One avid bingo player even helps to set up the senior center for the game that is played at 1 pm every Thursday. She says “It’s something she looks forward to”. “I’ve been doing it so long, it’s just a part of my life. I love bingo and I love people. It’s just a game of luck, really. Bingo keeps the mind working, it’s a matter of finding the letter and number coordinate on multiple cards”. Also, bingo there is free, and winnings include baked goods and novelty items. Another player called Jackie Moats, who has been playing for about eight years, said “It’s a break in the day, it’s just something to do".

the industry struggles to survive ‘double taxation’

ATE Online - News

A new report by market analyst Mintel has identified the smoking ban as the biggest cause of the decline in business at UK bingo halls. It said that the result of bingo players either staying away or spending time outside smoking during game intervals has been a sharp downturn in refreshment sales and gaming machine takings.

Mecca Bingo refuted the report’s finding, stating that gambling laws posed a greater threat as the industry struggles to survive ‘double taxation’. Under current regulations bingo halls are the only businesses that are required to pay both gross profit tax and VAT.

A spokesman for Mecca Bingo commented: “The Gambling Act has severely disadvantaged bingo halls across the UK. Some MPs have been very supportive in terms of lobbying for taxation parity, but because of this discrimination, the bingo industry is facing some pretty severe head winds.”

Super Bowl bingo

Super Bowl bingo :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Football

Super Bowl bingo
Fun for the whole family

If you're one of those people who only enjoys the Super Bowl for the commercials, there's finally a game for you.

It's easy to play and requires zero football knowledge. You don't have to worry about the spread, over/unders or what a money line is. It's fun for the whole family.

Three words: Super Bowl Bingo.

We've assembled 50 words, phrases, people or terms that probably will be mentioned during the Super Bowl telecast.

We've tried to eliminate any term that was too obvious. For example, you won't find ''Tom Brady'' listed on any of the cards. ''High ankle sprain'' will be because the controversy surrounding Brady's injury probably will be discussed. So Eli Manning, no; Archie Manning, yes.

Go to www.suntimes.com/sports and download the PDF of our bingo cards. We've shown a couple of card examples, but there are 12 unique cards for your participants.

Then watch Sunday's telecast. We suggest beginning Bingo at the actual start of the game broadcast at 5 p.m. Mark the square when you hear the term mentioned. You determine who wins.

So enjoy the Super Bowl and enjoy Bingo -- you'll still have plenty of time to watch the commercials.
