Bingo Scores High in Popularity

The statistics published on the International Day of Older Persons had the aim of extending recognition to the contributions of senior citizens to world development and to highlight the ageing of world population, which is considered to be the most salient demographic phenomena of our times.

The statistics also indicate that an encouraging number of older persons remain active in various sectors of life. They gave an insight on how the elderly preferred to spend their leisure time. Book reading and eating in restaurants proved to be the favourites, with gardening, sewing or knitting, and playing bingo also scoring high in popularity.

The impacts of an ageing population include, amongst other things, effects on the pension schemes, healthcare, and public expenditure systems.
